Click IT! Levels
Explorer Level
This level was introduced specifically for very young children, usually our 2 year olds. This learning programme allows for each child to build up their confidence using the computer for the first time. We provide lots of hands-on help and repetition to really help with building up mouse skills and all round confidence in using a computer for the first time. At this level, the children will be working on one creative project per term.
Beginner
Your child may have never used a computer before and is just learning to hold the mouse for the first time. Using a baby mouse, we start with a simple click and then start to introduce the mouse/cursor relationship. There will be a high focus on using software to develop mouse skills with lots of repetition. As mouse skills improve a child would be moved on to the next level. We will be using software that will also be building on key learning skills such as shapes, colours and numbers. Your child will be encouraged to ask and answer questions during the lesson and we usually finish off by the children choosing to sing some of their favourite nursery rhymes.
Improver
Your child will be improving his/her mouse skills and can now move the mouse more confidently. They will be introduced to the new skills of click and stick and click and drag so that they can move items on the screen. We will continue to extend key learning skills such as counting, number recognition, colours and shapes. At this level they will be introduced to using a graphics tablet for the first time which is a great tool to use when creating graphic pictures on the computer.
Intermediate
Your child will be moving the mouse in a controlled way and will be using software to speed up mouse skills and to use the cursor more accurately. They will be using software to practise clicking on small objects such as in dot to dot. The software used will be extending all the key learning skills that they are learning in nursery including building up their social skills and general all round confidence. They will be using the keyboard to practice typing their name as well as being introduced to other keyboard activities.
Advanced
Your child will be confident using the mouse. His/her mouse skills are very good and your child will be learning to navigate around a computer and switch between programmes. The software chosen will challenge mouse skills, such as in mazes, and also key learning skills such as problem solving, spatial awareness and early reading and spelling skills. They will be learning to work more independently and problem-solve as a group. At this level, they will be introduced to using a trackpad for the first time which is a great skill to learn if they are using a laptop at home.
Whizz - Kid
As for Advanced level, but your child will be able to use more advanced software and will be able to work almost independently. Your child will be able to work with less able children and support them in their work. Their advanced social skills allows them to take part in detailed discussions with their peers and their Click IT tutor. We also have extension activities for children working beyond this level. Children at this level are usually ready to go off to school and their high achievement on the computer will certainly stand them in good stead for when they start school.
